I also saw an article where the Corning person admitted that it'll still get scratched by sand, dust, coins, and keys in your pocket.

The Gorilla glass is not enough protection if you drop it. The Gorilla Glass is good for scratches and maybe some small drops but definitely not dropping it at certain angles. As of currently there are some screen protectors available on Amazon however, I can't vouch for their quality as I have yet to order mine.
